Cows and Wheat Simulation

In the Cows & Wheat simulation, students start with an operation that consists of 100 head of cattle and 100 acres of wheat.

Over the course of the simulation, students make a series of decisions — including whether to keep their operation cows and wheat or go all in with one or the other, how to manage drought risk, and what insurance (if any) to invest in — and then see the results play out through a mix of market prices and unpredictable events.

It's a well-rounded introduction to running a mixed livestock-and-crop operation, showing students how a single bad year in one enterprise can be offset (or compounded) by the other.
